ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Do you remember AVATAR? Of course you do! That film was made with 3D in mind, and the amount of depth Cameron used completely drew you into Pandora. Alice, while not a complete misfire, was bland, miscalculated and worst of all- unmemorable. The 3D made every scene look washed out and blurry, the performances were all over the place, and the story was mindless and predictable, but lacking much of the macabre sentiment that the original story had. Yes, Helena Bonham Carter, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman knocked it out of the park, and Burton has fantastic visual sense when it comes to his films, but the movie itself just wasn't all that fun. This is coming from a guy who likes Burton's films as well- I loved Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and much of his other work. But Burton doesn't take any risks anymore. This should've been his bread and butter. The Burton from the late 80s/early 90s would've killed it, but Tim Burton from 2010 made a film that pulls punches and offers absolutely no surprises, which is a shame.
